PALEMBANG, Indonesia Feb 6 (NNN-ANTARA) — The South Sumatra provincial administration promised to secure facilities of international standard in holding next year`s SEA Games (SEAG) XXVI.

South Sumatra Governor H Alex Noerdin said here Saturday the facilities would be completed five months ahead of the international event in Palembang, the provincial capital.

“The local administration will be hiring foreign experts and consultants,” he said.
He said the facilities to be located in Jakabaring, Palembang, will take the form of a sports complex, which will include an international standard swimming pool with a pool temperature mechanism, and a depth of 1 to 50 meters.

“The construction of this indoor swimming pool, the local administration is assisted by the famous Omega company,” he said.

Then, he added, the local administration will also provide venues for water sports covering 40 hectares.

“Jakabaring has a lake, OPI, which will also be beautified by expanding it, for rowing, beach volleyball, and water sky competitions. This there facilities would be one of the best in Asia as the rowing lane will be 2,300 meter long and 100 meters wide,” he said.

Alex also said the local administration will also build an international standard shooting range which is better than that in South Korea.

“Korea, which hosted the Asian Games, has shooting range of not more than 300 meters, but the one to be built will have a range of 600 meters,” he said.

It will also have a golf course of international standard an apartment for the athletes, multipurpose building, sport research building, and the trans Sriwijaya studio.

“It may be for the first time in history that SEA Games is held in one area, because it has always been held with the sports venues far apart,” he said.

He also assured that all the facilities would be 60% completed by he end of this year, and totally completed by July next year.

“Right now the area mostly consists of marshy land, but later five months ahead of the international event, the area will have changed into sports venues of international standards,” the former Musi Banyuasin regent said.

And to make everything come true, he said, the local administration would not use the regional budget, but will cooperate with third parties instead.

“This is a master plan very useful to the progress of the South Sumatra province. Later the province is also expected to become a center for national sports development,” he added. ( NAM NEWS NETWORK ). — NNN-ANTARA
